We currently have a fantastic opportunity for a talented, forward-thinking individual who shares our vision of helping Girl Scouts change the world for the better. Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington seeks a motivated Digital Communications Specialist. In this role, you’ll be an integral part of a fast-paced, project and results-oriented communications team. You’ll be primarily responsible for Girl Scouts of Oregon and Southwest Washington’s website presence and email marketing campaigns, and you’ll collaborate with the director of communications and other departments on the creation and editorial oversight of effective communications. One of the first tasks you’ll take on in this role is supporting the implementation of our website migration.


What you'll do

  • Develop communication strategies that advance membership, program, and fund development goals in partnership with other departments and the Director of Communications.
  • Research, write, copyedit, and proofread content for use with the website, email marketing communications, social media, and other channels.
  • Provide editorial support for communications and publications.
  • Become an expert in Girl Scout brand and editorial standards, produce materials in alignment with these standards, and reinforce these standards with colleagues through training and education.
  • Maintain girlscoutsosw.org via the Adobe Experience Manager CMS. Create, develop, copyedit/proofread and manage front-end Web content and layout aligned with the Girl Scout brand; work collaboratively with all departments to ensure content is relevant and up-to-date. Maintain back-end file and process management and conduct an annual website audit. Stay informed of the latest Girl Scouts of the USA Web initiatives, processes, and best practices, and maintain skill in these areas.
  • Track website performance using in-platform or council-specific tracking tools and Google Analytics. Implement effective optimization strategies and web accessibility practices.
  • Manage email marketing campaigns (e.g. monthly newsletters; campaign-based communications for membership, program, and fund development initiatives; email marketing automation) via the Salesforce Marketing Cloud platform, using Email Studio, Journey Builder, and other products. Maintain editorial calendars for email communications where applicable. Create, develop, and copyedit/proofread content and layout aligned with the Girl Scout brand. Keep informed of email marketing best practices, and recommend and implement relevant changes based on insights.
  • Track performance of email marketing campaigns (open rates, click rates, opt-outs, lead conversions, etc.) and analyze trends to optimize results.
  • Serve as backup for social media content management (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others).
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting as it relates to the work area.
  • Participate in department, organizational and regional events that occur outside of normal office hours (occasional day and overnight travel required).


What you bring

  • At least three (3) years of experience in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in journalism, communications, marketing, or public relations; or a combination of education and comparable work experience with two to three years of writing and communications experience.
  • Experience with website content management systems, including Adobe Experience Manager. Knowledge of HTML is preferred.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience in website content management.
  • Experience in the implementation of email marketing campaigns.
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud is preferred.
  • Spanish language skills (speaking and writing) are strongly preferred.

The Details

  • Compensation – Non-exempt/hourly, starting at $18.75 per hour, depending on experience. Plus $1.25 per hour for Spanish language skills at a conversational level or better.

  • Hours – Full-time, business hours, with some flexibility. Some evenings and weekends, and occasional overnight trips.
  • Location – This role requires some in-person meetings and events. Regular job duties can be performed remotely, in our Portland Service Center, or a hybrid setting based on your preference. You must be a resident of Oregon or Washington.
